The stone circle represents the place we hold for our creativity. It is something to be discovered within and created around us. It is a boundary against distraction and evocative of the most sacred space that sustains us.
Art is an honoring, a communicable memorialization of our solitary conversation with the divine. It is the evidence of becoming, the edge between what is and what waits to be known.
To create art we must be listening but we also need some basic skills in order to communicate our vision. We get stuck when our inspiration is lacking or our skills are not quite as developed as our imaginations.
Through stone circle I hope to encourage you in creating a practice of nurturing of your creativity and inspiration and teach you some skills for art making. I want you to be able to make something and say “I’m getting there” and sometimes even say “Yes! That’s it.” These classes are for beginners and for other artists that need some structure and space in order to get motivated. We all get stuck. When you are frustrated remember that your art does not have to be “better” than anyone else’s. It does not have to be realistic, or even pretty. It does not have to communicate something profound or totally new. Just because it is coming from you, makes it unique.
To be great your art does have to actually get made, and come increasingly from your truest essence. Creativity is a spiritual practice, and it takes practice to build skills. Lighten up, play; when, not if, you make art that you hate, don’t’ forget it’s disposable. Give it to a friend who will appreciate it, torch it, smash it, cut it up and collage it or, look at it tomorrow, you might just love it then. But don’t stop paying attention to what is ready to be created by you.
